It is part of the larger Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a designated conservation area that encompasses the crater and the surrounding highlands.

Often referred to as the “Garden of Eden” due to its unique and diverse ecosystem. It is home to an astonishing variety of wildlife, including the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros). Other animals you can find in the crater include cheetahs, hyenas, hippos, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and numerous bird species. The concentration of wildlife within the crater is exceptionally high, making it one of the best places in Africa for safari experiences.
